That's me embarrassing Subaru's at an SCCA Rallycross with Christmas-gifted snow tires. 1st Place. Stock Mk V Wolfsburg with black heated leather, heated mirrors, sunroof...Leased.
Very Proud VW Motorsport apparently passed these pics around the office shortly after I acquired them. This was early in the day before the mud got worse. By the end of it not one spec of silver. The car was maybe 4 months old after my 1GB GSX Eclipse (boosted to within an inch of its life) had been mothballed.
Anyhoo the top pic is a downhill left, after a left-right chicane from the starting line. I found that flooring it from the top of the hill and allowing the pendulum action to naturally swing the car sideways was the only way I could maintain momentum to get back up the hill without spinning my wheels, along with pointing the car towards a grippy line for the next turn.
I had helped create the Ithaca College Sportscar Club n get it an official sanctioning by the college-not easy. The club prez, a slightly crazy Japanese import by the name of Taketoki (Taki for short) had bough a 96 impreza from an old lady just for this purpose and twisted my arm to take my new snow tires and drive up to this event. Always wanted to explore the lush winding backroads, hit up as many autocrosses and other events as possible. He had a last generation MR2 in Japan he would run togue with, among other things. Miss that motherfucker...
Man those were miserable, sweaty borrow-helmets. For a couple turns I would approach a turn, see a course worker, then have my entire windshield go completely black from mud and scramble for the wipers. I couldn't leave them on all the time the abrasive mud might scratch the sh*t out of the glass. Speaking of the rocky farm soil was not kind to my front tires ...gouged the shit out of them. Still sold them.
